Highlights of war funding, new GI Bill

Highlights of the bill Congress passed and is sending to President Bush for funding U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, extending unemployment benefits, boosting GI Bill college benefits and providing flood aid to the Midwest:

WAR FUNDING — $162 billion for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, enough to fund the war into next year.

GI BILL — $63 billion over 10 years for increased college aid for military service members who serve after Sept. 11, 2001. The new benefit would provide full in-state tuition and fees for enrollment in a public college, a monthly housing stipend and $1,000 per year for books and supplies. People who serve three years would receive the full benefit; those with shorter enrollments would receive between 40 and 90 percent of the benefit. The benefits could be transferred to a service member's spouse or children.

UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE — $12.5 billion over two years to provide 13 additional weeks of unemployment benefits for people whose 26-week benefits have run out. People must have worked 20 weeks to be eligible. Ten-year cost: $8.2 billion.

FLOOD AID — $2.7 billion to replenish various disaster aid accounts in the aftermath of widespread flooding in the Midwest.

MEDICAID RULES — Blocks six of seven new Medicaid regulations sought by the Bush administration to curb program costs and combat waste and abuse. The new regulations would have reduced federal spending on health care for the poor by more than $10 billion over the next five years and were widely opposed by governors.

OTHER SPENDING — $10.1 billion for various foreign aid programs, including $1.9 billion for international food aid and $465 million for Mexico to combat drug trafficking; $5.8 billion for Louisiana levee repairs and construction; $4.6 billion for military base construction; $400 million for "competitiveness" programs, energy research and medical research; and $210 million to address cost overruns involving the 2010 census.

happy times!!

Hey guys I'm back!!

I guess I'm too lazy to write since I haven't wrote anything forever. Oh well here I am! The past couple was ok though. I have longer time with my husband and we get to go out a lot. Nothing really so interesting just driving around our area and trying every restaurants that are seem interesting. This week was awesome because my husband got promoted, awesome because he's got 1more stripe added to his uniform and of course increase of salary which will work for us both since we still have more debts to pay. Well what do we expect for starters like us, so it's pretty much normal. One thing thats not quite good to hear is, promotion simply means more job and more stress. But above all I'm so happy and proud of him for making it!!

Best & the worst

The best and the worst part in life , is get married to the best man in the world and
cut yourself
while
trying to clean your kitchen knife. Pretty dumb don't you think??
Yeah i thought so but what can I do I'm too clumsy and retarded
most of the time but
that don't mean that he loves me
less which has always been fantastic!

SUSHI TIME!

It's been a long day and I'm getting so tired and ready to sleep. My husband is off from work today so we got up early this morning, eat our breakfast, took a shower and took off by 10. We head straight to get a new I.D, because our IDs are gonna expire soon, but the system was down, again, so we left and went to his commander's going away picnic. It was packed, everyone was there and the food was great. After eating our lunch we went to get his ring, at last, because until now he have nothing on his finger to show off that he's married and it's all because it's so f****n hard to find his ring size. But oh well were good now and the best thing is we went shopping after. I bought a purse, a wallet and some clothes which is awesome. And before heading home we went ate our dinner, which is the best part, SUSHI time folks!!

Getting To Know Me

Hello everyone! my name is Melody, and I'm one proud Filipina living here in Japan with my loving husband who is in the military. We just got married last 11April of this year and life has never been the same with all this transitions going on, but I'm not worried about it coz I always take my everyday life as a challenge and I consider every step I make is a leap towards success. One of my friends from Australia introduced me to this world of blogging which I'm pretty much interested and that is because I'm also one of those people or I should say wives that are pretty much stuck at their houses and left with nothing to do aside from cleaning, cooking and whatever household that should be done. Well, not working is not really my choice neither of my husband's it's just simply because we are still working on some of our legal documents, which if not soon be done I'd be stuck at our house for at least few more months, that prohibits me from working and not because we have a kid that i should take good care of or neither pregnant. I'm happy that through this I'd be able to speak whatever thats in mind and at the same time giving my brain an exercise and keeping it working to stay young and youthful. Oh well I just hope everyone would feel welcome to visit my blog spot whenever, wherever keep in touch you all!!
